Easy Breakfast Meal Prep Ideas for Weight Loss

Posted on August 3, 2016 Written by Daniel Leave a Comment

Weight loss is a long-term goal, and preparing breakfast meals when you’re in a rush might seem like an impossible task. There are so many food groups you may have cut out, and you might feel there’s nothing left but some bland scrambled eggs or one of those fad diet snack bars. Put down the spatula and stop eating those breakfast bars! Breakfast meals don’t need to be hard or boring, take a look at these top five easy breakfast recipe ideas that are healthy, diet-friendly, and won’t have you slaving over the stove for two hours.

Plus, your family might just like them, too!

#1 Yogurt, Vanilla, and Granola

Whole grains are an important part of anyone’s diet, and many researchers are discussing the possibility that cutting this important food group out entirely can cause dieters to rebound. The best time to add any grains to your diet is in the morning. Your metabolism is ready to go, and it’s ready to process food quickly, so giving it whole grains helps keep you feeling fuller longer, and your body won’t turn it into fat because you have a whole day ahead of you!

For this recipe, you’ll need:

  • 1 Cup Plain Yogurt
  • ½ tsp. Vanilla Extract
  • 2 Tbsp. Granola

Just mix the yogurt and vanilla extract together, and then top it with some granola. Using plain yogurt and vanilla extract rather than purchasing vanilla yogurt helps keep the sugar content of this recipe down.

#2 Tropical Fruity Smoothies for an Easy Breakfast

Many diets have you limiting fruit, but it’s something delicious to eat in the morning that will give you a great energy boost. Plus, you do need to get those imperative antioxidants and vitamins from your fruit, too. If you’re someone who’s on the go all the time, smoothies might be your answer to your breakfast dilemma. To make this even quicker, dice the fruit before and put it in a bag so you can just dump it in the blender in the morning.

½ Large Mango, Peeled and Sliced

    1 Cup Strawberries, Halved

1 Cup Plain or Vanilla Yogurt

    ½ Cup Mango Nectar, Chilled

1 Tbsp. Pineapple Juice Concentrate, Frozen

    2 Tbsp. Flaxseed Oil

Put the fruit, nectar, yogurt, and the concentrate into your blender. Add four to five ice cubes. Pulse until it’s smooth. Then add the oil and pulse until it’s smooth. Garnish with a strawberry slice, if you want to be fancy!
If you’re someone who loves bananas, try out this fruity smoothie!

  • 1 Banana, Sliced
  • ¾ Cup Vanilla Yogurt
  • 1 Tbsp. Honey
  • ½ tsp. Ginger, Grated

Add it all to a blender and pulse!

#3 Fresh Berries

Fresh berries should not be considered a snack! Sprinkle some raspberries over a little yogurt, add some blueberries to some muesli, or just have some strawberries plain. Berries have important antioxidants in them that help keep your skin looking young, your brain working properly, and your body oxygenated. They help destroy bad cells in your body to help you not just looking younger, but also be healthier!
Here’s an idea on how to add berries to your morning breakfast if you don’t want to eat them plain.

  • ¾ Cup Vanilla Yogurt
  • ½ Cup Old-Fashioned Oats
  • ½ Cup Blueberries
  • 1 Tbsp. Almonds, Chopped

Add the yogurt and oats to the bowl, cover, and refrigerate overnight. Then add the blueberries and the almonds in the morning and you have a delicious, healthy breakfast!

#4 Peanut Butter Makes Meal Prep Easy

Unless you’re allergic to it, of course! If you’re someone who loves peanut butter and thought they had to cut it out of their diet completely, you don’t have to. Spread a bit of peanut butter on a slow release carbohydrate, like some whole-grain toast in the morning, and then chow down! Peanut butter actually helps you lose weight rather than maintain it because it’s packed full of protein.

Almond butter is a great alternative to peanut butter, and is my go-to mid morning snack with french roast dark coffee. I usually keep a container of either peanut butter or almond butter at work since it does not need to be refrigerated. All I have to do is bring a slice of bread(Ezekiel bread is great), throw it in the toaster, and spread the almond butter. Since the bread is nice and hot, spreading the almond butter is a snap. This works great as a breakfast meal or a quick snack anytime.

#5 Eat Dessert

Okay, it might not be the dessert you’re thinking of, but what about some rice pudding for breakfast? Rice pudding it actually a healthy, delicious breakfast when it’s done right, and you’ll feel like you’re spoiling yourself! Try out this recipe by making it the night before and eating it cold the next morning.

  • ½ Cup Instant Brown Rice, Uncooked
  • 15 Pistachios
  • ¾ Cup Nonfat Milk
  • ½ tsp. Cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. Brown Sugar

Cook the rice in the milk on the stovetop according to the rice directions. Mix in the nuts, and then top with the cinnamon and sugar.

One study demonstrated that dieters who ate pistachios daily had a lower body mass index in twelve weeks than those who had consumed pretzels, so you get a win-win situation with this recipe!

Bonus – Eat More Protein for Weight Loss

If that means eating more eggs for breakfast for you, then go for it! If you’re someone who doesn’t like eggs in the morning, but you’d like to eat protein because it has been proven to make you feel fuller longer and it promotes weight loss, then why not try frying up some steak strips the night before? You can always eat them with a healthy fat, such as a little grass-fed butter or some smashed avocado the next morning.
Here’s a crazy simple recipe for cooking steak.

  • 1 tsp. Sea Salt
  • 1 tsp. Cracked Pepper
  • 6 oz. Steak

Do not slice the steak before you cook it! Heat a tablespoon of butter or oil in your pan until it’s almost smoking. It should be really hot. While you wait for the pan to heat up, slather the steak in some salt and pepper. Then fry it on either side until it reaches your desired doneness. Three minutes on either side will result in well-done. When it’s finished, slice it on a cutting board and then put it into a container to save for the morning!

Losing weight doesn’t have to be boring, dry, and tasteless. You can make amazing breakfasts that don’t take long at all, and all of them can be made the night before if you are some who has to rush out the door right away. Happy eating!
